Juliette's Biography

Juliette Lewis was an "it-girl" actress of the 1990s, with her star-making role as Nick Nolte 's teen daughter in Cape Fear and the serial killer thrillers Kalifornia with Brad Pitt and Natural Born Killers with Woody Harrelson . Her career has since faded to oblivion, with supporting roles in lowbrow stuff like Old School with Will Ferrell and Stiller & Wilson 's Starsky & Hutch , and leading roles in obscure films you've never heard of.

Lewis's father is longtime Hollywood character actor Geoffrey Lewis . She started acting in commercials at 12, and in her early teens made occasional appearances on 1980s sitcoms like The Wonder Years and The Facts of Life .

At 14, she played the daughter on the short-lived sham-marriage sitcom I Married Dora -- and to get around child-labor laws, so she could work as an actress more than a few hours a day, she sued for her legal emancipation. When she won, she promptly moved in with family friend Karen Black . "It wasn't a big, significant thing," Lewis says. "All it took was one hour in a court in downtown L.A. with me and my parents."

Lewis dropped out of high school at 15, and was an outspoken pot-head for years, but says she was rescued from drugs by Scientology's Narconon program. And now, she seems to be down on dopers. "Maybe there is some rational logic to the legalization idea, but I could never support that. It's such a cop-out, in a way. I do not want to be outside and have people smoking pot and being high around me. That energy is just totally annoying to me, y'know?"

She says Robert De Niro 's thumb was very clean when she sucked it in Cape Fear .

She sings in a rock'n'roll band (Juliette Lewis and the Licks), doesn't watch TV, uses extra-soft toilet paper, and prefers not to wear make-up. "What you exude, your sexuality, is just a part of self. So a manufactured sex appeal, which includes an open mouth and lip gloss and bright colors , this is the American porn sex appeal which has nothing to do with sex. It's like blow-up dolls . I could do that. Very easily. It's not like I can't. It's just never been my objective. Now I realize you're selling things, So you basically become a rack."

"It's an ability to look unattractive," she says. "I think I can be beautiful with all the little stuff done, and I can be ugly. A lot of attractive actresses can't be ugly."
